Book Notes & Discussion

Book Notes & Discussion.

“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and injustice.

- Senator Robert F. Kennedy

A 21st Century Education requires that all students learn ‘how to learn’ in order to help create new professions needed that have not yet been created…  New languages, cultures and protocols are necessary tools needed to compete as global citizens in world markets and global industries.

The most successful methods and curriculum will be viewed in the Education Standard with the presumption that all children and adults may learn provided they have world class methods, curriculum, and opportunities to learn and be educated.  Harvard studies emphasizing the modalities of learning; as well as a variety of literacy and communications methods will be used as world class examples of successful education methods.

The politicization of education has too often acted as a barrier to the science and art of educating all students to their potential. President Obama has most recently referred to the politicization of education as unnecessary ‘culture wars.’ Obama uses public and independent charter schools as examples of education reform. Proposals of merit pay and world class standards are currently being discussed in the Obama education.

Please join in the discussion on both levels of interest; world class methods and strategies that have proven results, as well as political challenges that prevent educators, parents and students from reaching each child in the classroom.

Economic Recovery Advisory Board and World News Today

Posted by admin On May - 28 - 2009

“Without the integrity of a job, the American way of life and the middle class is not possible.”

The Economic and Jobs Standard requires positive and predictable growth in the development of all sectors of our economy including but not limited to; small to midsize business start ups in all sectors of business, industry, education, retail, tourism, and hospitality.  Sustainability of business is key and in large part attributable to the quality of our free market capitalistic economy.

Free and fair market provisions that determine the quality of our economy may include; open bid competition, anti trust protections, mainstreamed regulations, as well as criminal and civil checks and balances. Global market competition requires that the Whitehouse and Administration negotiate access to global markets, open trade agreements; patent and copyright protections and equal trade-open trade agreements.

GDP

The Gross Domestic Product is the greatest indicator of economic health in the American economy. The current record loss of jobs and American based businesses has created the largest wake up call to the middle class that this nation has had since the great depression. We have learned that without a vital and competitive manufacturing sector of the economy, the service and retail sectors of the economy will not be sustainable.

The Obama Economic Recovery Advisory Board

On May 20, 2009 the Economic Recovery Advisory Board comprised of 15 key industry leaders and professionals is to create a strategic plan for the 18 billion dollar economic recovery dollars.

It is anticipated that green jobs will lead the economic recovery through the use of alternative energy focused manufacturing and applications throughout the country.

Companies can use the money to defray costs of “lean transformation” training offered by Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Money also is available to defray costs of a sales training program called “Eureka! Winning Ways.”

The grants are meant to cover up to 50% of WMEP training. Remaining costs must be paid by the company.

The grants are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Training must be completed by Dec. 31.

The Future Of America’s Energy Crisis

Posted by admin On May - 26 - 2009

MEMORIAL WEEKEND MESSAGE:  http://twitter.com/pickensplan/statuses/1888902054

gas-powered-station2The Future of America’s energy crisis doesn’t rest with democrat versus republican rhetoric. It rests with the solutions brought forward from entrepreneurs, innovators and scientists who dare to come together to resolve one of the longest lived crisis of our time, ‘the need for energy independence.’

The posts and conversations that follow will be those of entrepreneurs and citizens doing their part to imagine the alternative to oil dependence, innovate and design solutions for infrastructure and application, and inspire citizens across party lines to do the same.

Boone on the issue: “America’s national and economic security depends on moving off foreign oil as quickly as possible.  Natural gas is the cleanest, most abundant, most economical domestic fuel to replace imported diesel.  The U.S. has enough natural gas reserves to last us more than 118 years – we should turn to it as an immediate replacement for foreign oil in fleets and heavy duty vehicles.  A battery can’t move an 18-wheeler-the technology isn’t there yet.  Natural gas buys a bridge to the future.”

The struggle today between traditionalist- oil only – rhetoric, and those that look to the immediate and long term solutions of energy independence understand that there must be immediate, short term, and long term solutions set before the American people.

There are significant consequences on the American economy and jobs, IF the infrastructure investments and small business applications are not immediately strengthened for the sake of all Americans.

“The American people spend $700 billion every year buying foreign oil, representing the greatest transfer of ‘wealth’ in the history of mankind.  It is in America’s interest both economically and militarily to plan for energy independence so that Americans do not become   more dependent on the unstable foreign nations that we rely on for nearly 70% of the oil we use each day.”

President Obama and the 111th Congress need to enact an energy plan that reduces our foreign oil dependence by at least 30% within ten years. This plan must include proven American technology and resources; the development of new energy sources; and the expansion and modernization of the national electrical grid to transport renewable energy to homes and businesses.

Delaying any further development of alternative energy and the jobs it will create, means tacit support for continuing America’s dependence on foreign oil and those who are hostile to the United States.
